The Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team had two players earn All-Arrowhead Conference honors, and the Chargers finished second in the overall season standings as they wrapped up their Arrowhead schedule in a meet hosted by Black Hawk on Monday at Byron Hills.

Sophomore Brayden Reece (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville) shot a 2-over-par 73 to finish as the conference’s runner-up for the spring season, and sophomore Bryce Grafton (Orion, Ill./Orion) finished 11th in the Arrowhead after shooting a 4-over 75, earning both of them spots on the all-conference team for the second straight year.

The All-Arrowhead team is made up of the top 12 players during the conference season, with each golfer’s four best scores out of the five meets counting toward their total.

Reece’s 292 total for the spring was 10 shots behind conference champion Rielly McGranahan of Black Hawk.

Sandburg’s 306 on Monday was its lowest of the spring and edged Illinois Valley by one shot for second place. That also gave the Chargers a second-place finish by one point (16-15) over the Eagles in the conference’s team standings. Black Hawk shot 293 to win Monday’s meet and won the Arrowhead title with 24 points.

Sophomore Brady Grafton (Orion, Ill./Orion), in his final tune-up before competing as an individual in the NJCAA Division II championship later this month, shot a 72 to lead the Chargers on Monday. That was also Grafton’s best round of the spring.

Grant Campbell (Earlville, Ill./Earlville) shot an 86 to round out Sandburg’s scoring, and Matt Graves (Oneida, Ill./ROWVA) added an 87.

While the Chargers are finished for the season as a team, Brady Grafton will compete in the national tournament May 21-24 at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Ind., after he qualified at the Region IV tournament during the fall. This will mark the seventh straight season and 11th time in the last 12 years that Sandburg has sent an individual or qualified as a team for nationals.
